Floating burl oak desk
This client wanted a shallow desk for his son’s room that would make a real statement. He didn’t want it to take up any more space than necessary, his only requirement was that it could be used with a laptop on top.
The main challenge was supporting the 150 kg slab with no visible supports. After heavy reinforcements in the wall, channels were cut out of the slab and corresponding slats were securely fixed to the wall, allowing the desk to look like its floating,
The beautiful slab was sourced from a local tree surgeon and is truly stunning. The burl in the grain makes this piece incredibly unique and full of character, an absolute one-of-a-kind desk. Can’t say I have come across anything with this amount of character and burl before.
I’m really looking forward to seeing the desk when the rest of the house is complete.
